The tech was wonderful. He originally could not replicate the issue so he did a bunch of software updates and told me to bring it back no charge if I was still having issues. When I did bring it back, he was super quick to diagnose the issue and fix it. He was really upfront about the pricing and answered all my question. Definitely would use this service again.

I NEVER leave bad reviews (look at my history) but this transaction upset me so much I felt compelled to write the following:

EDIT SINCE THEY RESPONDED: I seemed alright picking it up because I did not fully realize what had happened to my laptop. Its a awkward place to do business and feels uncomfortable to stand in, so I was trying to move along especially since another customer arrived while I was there and joined me standing in the cramped office/living room area. They did refund me, but that just covers what they originally overcharged me for, does not really help with my busted up laptop.

Also I would not describe the data transfer as "successful" LOL a portion of the photos they apparently could not seem to format (?) correctly, so I cannot open them as they are. Also there is ABSOLUTELY no way they transferred all the data that was on that computer LOL, what was on that flash drive was a drop in the bucket compared to what was left on it last time I had it running.

Who knows though if anything else is recoverable since their little makeover on the housing and motherboard.

Original review:

I brought my first generation MacBook Pro in to recover some data. The battery would not fit inside the compartment, besides that the exterior of the laptop was free from any major damage (though it was worn in from 10+ years of use).

I was told the brand new (still in package, purchased from Walmart ) flash drive I brought in did not work, so I was put in a situation where it was easiest to purchase what they had. I did not want to complicate things, so I went ahead and gave them the ok...

When I went to go pick it up I was kind of surprised at the price, it was a tad bit more than the rough estimate I received over the phone from Ben. But that wasn't an issue, I was excited to finally get my beloved data!

I was so excited I did not fully realize how much of a makeover ole' Joe did on my beloved MacBook. It now makes sense why he was pushing me to recycle it, get rid of the evidence of his HORRENDOUS work.

My mind is absolutely blown he could keep a straight face when he handed me this laptop.

He seemed agitated that I asked him to screw the housing back together, it was literally wide open, you could see the motherboard as clear as day. He snapped it back together and then mentioned there were some more screws, which he did not offer to put back in. So I had to say: "yes Joe I want the screws from my laptop". This would be obvious to anyone besides a Genius like Joe.

I would NEVER bring anything to these people EVER again. I literally cannot believe the damage he did to my laptop. He completely ruined it. I had the laptop previously looked at and it would of cost $3-$400 to fix, at the time I opted out to just buy a new laptop and recover the data later.

I wanted to hang on to the first generation MacBook Pro because it was something special to me, I liked having the possibility of having it fixed. Now it is literally DEMOLISHED.

Look at the final invoice under Notes: "4. Reassembled device ....."

Look at the picture! This is what he deems as a "reassembled device". Literally wide open with tons of screws missing and the keyboard completely torn up.

These guys are incredible!!!!! My daughter decided she wanted to build her own gaming PC. What a nightmare. After our failed attempts the guys said they could put it together for us- which they did. When they tested it there was a failed part in the hardware. They disassembled the WHOLE thing so we could return the motherboard. They then rebulit with the new motherboard- once that turned on it revealed another hardware problem. Disassemble, new part procured, they than reassembled. I believe this happened 4 times total. When I went to pick up I was terrified because they spent DAYS trying to get this thing to work. They charged me the orginal quoted price for the work, not the 30+ hours they spent actually working on it.
WOW!!! I love these guys! Don't let the fact that they work out of a residential house creep you out it just means they are homey, have a place to be with there sweet dogs and are truly gifted at what they do. This all happened over a year ago and I'm still this excited about their service.

I wanted to upgrade my desktop computer for Windows 11 and Josh looked at it and told me that I would need a new computer. Mine was 18 years old!! Who knew 🙂 I picked up my new Dell Inspiron today and everything was super. Josh and Joe were able to migrate all of my programs and material over from my old computer to the new one and I was literally up and running in 10 minutes. My wife and I swear by The People's Geek!
